Julie Andrews has revealed that the iconic Sound Of Music scene, in which Maria sings about the hills alive with the sound of music, was not as easy to film as it looks on screen.
And it wasn’t because of those lonely goatherds.
In a hilarious reveal, Dame Julie Andrews admitted that over 50 years later she can still remember the difficult circumstance in which they filmed, including rain and a helicopter whose downdraft could causing her to fall over.
‘We were out there for ages because the weather was not kind to us,’ she revealed.
‘Someone forgot to mention that Austria has the world’s seventh highest rain fall. We shot with rain because you don’t see it that much on camera, it has to be an absolute downfall.’

She went on to reveal that ‘every time the helicopter went around me, the downdraft from the jet engines just flung me into the grass’.
‘We did this six or seven times. I was spitting dirt and hay and things like that. I was like, “Couldn’t you take a WIDER circle?’ All I got was, “That’s fine, we’re doing another take”.
